The Party
What a night.

I guess I'll start from the beginning.

BrotherBeast heard from a friend of his that works in security that ConTech needed guards for their Grand Opening party for the new office. No way in Hell was I gonna pass this up. So I started looking through my closet for something to wear. Didn't take long. I only have one good dress, and God knows Sally/Jasmin's stuff won't fit me.

So Sally/Jasmin walked in while I was looking, and I asked her for a ride. (God, I hate not being able to drive.) She said I shouldn't go, and I said I didn't care what she thought and we started fighting, and BrotherBeast came in, and of course Sally/Jasmin just told him what was going on. Like, no, I don't mind, thanks for not asking!

Okay, long part of a longer story short, Sally/Jasmin has dirt on BrotherBeast, so he had to go with me, and if she thinks I'm getting her something for Christmas, she is so wrong.

So, the party. It wasn't hard to get in. I started chatting with the woman walking in, and the man at the door assumed we were with her and her date. I call it the "Double Jeopardy" trick. Not a great movie, but apparently good for something.

So we got in and started mingling. I immediately lost BrotherBeast, of course. I did see one Creepy Bald Guy, and I tried to avoid him.

Of course, Jacqueline Barrett was there. I recognized her from the news articles. She's tall and blonde and looks good in navy blue. I tried to get close enough to overhear her conversation, but before I got a chance, she headed up to the stage to give a speech. The speech was more of the same- they were thrilled to be there, they have were excited to have such brilliant scientists, yada yada yada. She at least acknowledged Sarah and Tommy, and said they were "moving forward into the future." She even managed to get in a shot at us, by mentioning the "rumors and slander" they've "endured."

I kind of wanted to hit her. (And then steal her earrings. Then correct her that we wrote it, so it's libel, not slander. But whatever.)

So then she came down, and the Mayor stepped up to give his speech, which is when I stopped paying attention. I was kind of trying to get close to Jacqueline without her noticing me. Unfortunately, I lost sight of her.

Then I turned around and found myself facing the Creepy Bald Guy. Or rather, his chest.

I swear, y'all, I think my heart stopped. I don't know if he noticed or not, but I tried to hide it.

"We need to talk," he said.

"I'm sorry, I think you've got the wrong person," I said. He didn't buy it.

"Follow me." He turned and walked away.

I followed him. I know, it was stupid. I should've known better. But I couldn't help myself. I followed him out of the room and down a couple of corridors to the greenhouse. (Yes, they have a greenhouse.) Jacqueline Barrett was there. She's quick.

I'll try to remember it as closely as I can.

JB: I know who you are, Hallie.
Me: Good. And I know the truth about your company.
JB: Now, if that were true you wouldn't be here fishing for information, would you?
Me: You did something to Sarah, and I'm gonna find out what.
JB: You know what, Hallie? This has gone far enough. You are a paranoid, delusional young woman, and I think you need to seek help. I advise you to do that, and to shut down your community before we're forced to take legal action.
Me: You know what? Let's compromise. As soon as you can prove that everything we've said about the company is wrong, I will post a full, heartfelt apology, because as I'm sure you know, it's not Libel if it's true. And I'm not shutting down the community until Sarah comes back. And by the way, I don't appreciate being threatened. So keep your henchmen away from me.
JB: I don't know what you're talking about.
Me: Yeah, whatever. Are you gonna kill me or can I go?

She asked the CBG to "escort me from the building," which he did without a word. I ended up waiting by the car and calling BrotherBeast on his cell. Then we went home, and my parents asked where we'd been and we said we went to the movie. I'm sure they didn't believe us, but Sally/Jasmin backed us up, so they didn't push it.

And then I had to fill Sally/Jasmin and BrotherBeast in on everything.

And now I'm going to bed.

Seeing as how we've kept to saying that we SUSPECT and FEEL and BELIEVE, etc. that they are responsible, technically we're not even libeling. We are merely stating our OPINIONS. Last I checked, we are completely free to think/feel/believe/suspect/etc anything we want, just like we're free to voice those thoughts/feelings/beliefs/etc.

The key thing in all of it with that is, as with most of life's situations, it's not what you say it's how you say.

But to be honest, I must say that them being so paranoid about our community does make me wonder why they are so worried about us if they didn't have anything to do with Sarah. Again, merely stating a suspicion, as they are still innocent until proven guilty.
